What the numbers mean
A 48-amp (11.5 kW) charger adds roughly 35–44 miles of range per hour — enough to refill a typical day's driving in 1–2 hours overnight. Even a 32-amp charger refills most commutes while you sleep. The expensive question isn't speed, it's whether your panel supports the circuit: check with our panel capacity checker.
Note: your EV's onboard charger caps the rate — most EVs accept 11.5 kW or less on AC, so a 50-amp charger won't charge a 7.7-kW-capped car any faster. Our best chargers of 2026ranking covers which chargers deliver each power level.
